A message from our Chaplain, The Reverend Toby Summerour
The Summer Chapel is indeed a special place where God’s Love is spoken, felt, and most especially heard. I was sent there to attend my first service 10 years ago as an intern at the Church of the Good Shepherd.  I left at the conclusion of the service totally enveloped in the Holy Presence of God. When I returned to meet my wife at Good Shepherd, she asked “What happened to you?” I said, “What do you mean?” She said you are glowing.” And I said, “Next week, go see for yourself.”
Come see and hear and feel for yourself. Come as you are. All are welcome to worship here--in prayer and in song and in communion with God and with each other.

Blessings and Peace to you+
Toby

A message from our Chaplain Emeritus, The Reverend Jim Theus.

 The Reverend Jim Theus

The pinnacle of my life’s work has been“The Summer Chapel.”  It seems that all the pastoral work has found expression from the rustic pulpit in this tiny mountain school house/chapel.  Each Sunday is an amazing “event,’ as cars turn into the church yard an hour before services just to find a seat inside the building; late comers sit under the tent which is beside the building.  This response is humbling to this preacher and gratifying beyond description.  When I founded the Summer Chapel, my dreams did not reach this high.
These Blue Ridge Mountains have rooted themselves in my heart.  Their bluegrass music, the heart-beat of our worship; their towering grandeur, our outdoor cathedral; and the very “Voice of God” whispered in the breezes and babbling of clear running streams.  The Summer Chapel is a holy place on this earth.

God willing and ‘the creek don’t rise,’ my hope is to be of some use here for some years to come.
Jim
